More on the costs of today's celebration

Ha!  I find it humorous that the same people who are denouncing the cost today, justified it then.

You liberals provide endless entertainment.  Of course, I love you guys :)

My thought was that all inaugurations should be more modest affairs all around, regardless of the political party - one ball, one dinner, one speech... particularly for a 2nd timer. Yes, honor the occasion, but do it with some restraint. Or is that unAmerican :)

Times are different than during Clinton's inauguration. It was wrong then too of course, but worse now.

oh, rocky is me btw hehe, sorry deshanews i forgot to log in under my real name. having a bit of fun haha. i can see to an extent why you would want the second one to be big and elaborate. (especially since it's the first legitimate one lol) the first time is kinda like luck. the second time you know the majority wanted you back (no matter who the president (and i use that word losely) is) but like i said, this is war time. it's just disresoectful to the sacrifice our troops are making. i think.

Interesting that the past three two-term presidents had scandals during their second terms! Nixon and Watergate, Reagan-Iran Contra, Clinton-Lewinski.
Wonder what W has or will do?

Not a double agent: just not a democrat ...

I just can't stand the republicans and they have a disasterous platform.

So, I choose anyone else: In the US that means the only other party that has a chance: DNC ...

At least until you get some kind of REAL democracy like proportional representation, and I don't see that coming anytime soon...

I suppose that's an ok thought. I disagree. An inauguration is a time that the country should come together for something more than political parties and bickering. They have never been done on a small scale. My problem right now is with democrats and liberals who have complained about the cost...

"idiots with screwed up priorities"

Didn't Clinton have a huge cerimony for his library opening just a few months ago? Wasn't there a war going on then? Do you know how much that library cost?? Multiply the cost of this ceremony by 3 and you still don't have the full cost.

Good try deviant

I think, for the most part, this is more of an indictment on the opposing political party than it is on the individual. People go out and try to destroy legacy in the second term. Obviously, no one had to help Clinton and Nixon as they did quite well destroying things themselves, but people are more than happy to help them along in their cause.

Gee, is Clinton the president? A "wartime" one at that? I don't think so. Thats not the same thing is it?

Did I say anywhere that Clinton's library was a good thing, anywhere? Is that the topic of this post?

So, what is your problem with all of this then? Is your problem the money that is being spent? Is your problem the celebrating that is going on? Or is your problem that it's being done by a Republican?

We all know the answer to this. By your definition, only those who aren't President can have fun and celebrate during times of war...correct?

Deviant, your response shows me just who you are. You are upset that a Republican is in office. I highly doubt that you would call for Kerry or someone else that is Liberal to not have a celebration like this.

You are a hypocrite my friend. You are fun to blog with though. It is extremely easy to get you riled up.

Your idiotic responses get what they deserve :)

If you cared to actually read a little closer you might have noticed I said they're all idiots with screwed up priorities.

I know its extremely difficult for your little mind to comprehend anything other than liberal or conservative.

Also, comparing a cost of a structure, such as a library, compared to that of a party seems a wee bit off don't you think?

As far as I can tell the library is still there isn't it? Open to people? Wheres Bush's 40 Million dollar party come Feb?

Then again, since all you can do is slobber all over one party and denigrate the other. Your defence when it comes to *insert any issue* as it relates to Bush is to compare it to something a democrat did.
That tactic doesn't come off as very convincing to anyone.

What if they are all corrupt idiots?

Lastly, what gets me "riled up" is your condescending attitude. Your little two party system is a bad joke made to look like a democracy.

Some 48% of your population is against Bush. Now they have no say. Doesn't seem very democratic to me. The whole system is corrupt and sad.

I think a system of proportional representation would let more people be actually heard. I know your not to stupid to look it up. Educate yourself ...

Ah where to begin.

You said " As far as I can tell the library is still there isn't it? Open to people? Wheres Bush's 40 million dollar party come Feb?

Well, why don't you ask the people who received the money. Ask the florists who were hired, ask the limo drivers who were hired, as the caterers who were hired. Ask all of the small and medium sized businesses as well as the local economy of D.C. about it and they will say that this will help positively impact their economy for some time. You are too small minded to even consider something like this. So, what would I rather have...a celebration that puts thousands to work or a shrine to a man who constantly cheated on his wife? I will take the former.

You said "Then again, since all you can do is slobber all over one party and denigrate the other. (this isn't a complete sentence, but I won't talk about that right now...Lord knows I'm not perfect in this regard) Your defence (actually spelled defense) when it comes to *insert any issue* as it relates to Bush is to compare it to something a democrat did. That tactic doesn't come off as very convincing to anyone.

Ok, so first off, I defy you to find one positive statement you have made regarding a Conservative or Republican in the last year. You won't find it. Next...

As far as defending Republicans by stating what Democrats do, you aren't being entirely truthful. I have constantly, when defending Republicans or Conservatives, talked about why they were being wrongly beaten for it...you just choose not to listen. To list instances of liberal hypocracy is very legit. The only reason you don't like that is because you have no way to defend yourself against your obvious one sidedness. You see, you may say I'm one sided, but at least the side I profess is right.

You said "What if they are all corrupt idiots"

Firstly, I don't agree. There are many uncorrupted people on both sides of the isle. I don't believe Howard Dean has one good idea in his body, but I also believe that he actually believes everything he says. Secondly, you don't believe they are all corrupt idiots because in saying that, you would be agreeing with me that Democrats and liberals are this way. You have, once again, never said a negative thing about liberals....if you have prove it to me.

You said "Lastly, what gets me "riled up" is your condescending attitude. Your little two party system is a bad joke made to look like a democracy."

Oh yes, I forgot, you are the one that likes to bash American politics and yet you aren't even from here...are you from Canada? I think so, isn't that the country that is almost completely reliant on our goods, services and products? Yeah, nevermind on that huh? I have a condescending attitude? Look at yourself and the liberals for that my friend. Do you remember the reaction of the press and liberals when Bush won the election again? "The only reason he won was that people in the red states were too stupid to see through him". That was the kind of thing that was being said. You, my friend, need to look into the mirror or at least into the reflection off of those glasses that hang at the end of your big pointed nose :)

You said "Some 48% of your population is against Bush. Now they have no say. Doesn't seem very democratic to me. The whole system is corrupt and sad.

48% of the population has no say? What? This is a representative republic. There is also freedom of speech. They have a say in everything, it's just that people aren't listening to their lies and crap. More people, in this election, voted for Bush than any other candidate in the history of the United States. Once again, I have to say, that if a liberal were in power in the White House, you would say that 52% of the people in the country voted for your President. (As an aside, did you realize that Clinton and then Carter before him never received at least 50% of the popular vote?

You said "I think a system of proportional representation would let more people be actually heard. I know you are not too (you wrote to which is obviously incorrect) stupid to look it up. Educate yourself...

You are getting painful my friend. You want to know the great thing about America? If you don't like something, as a citizen, you can affect change. The problem is, you aren't an American.

first off, I haven't seen the current status quo do one positive thing in the last year, excepting tsunami relief.

Secondly, " You see, you may say I'm one sided, but at least the side I profess is right."

LMAO! I forgot, your right any everyone else is wrong. I can't believe that you have the gall to even pretend to be balanced, at all. This kind of arrogance only comes from religious fundamentalist toads like yourself.

This is my favorite:
"You have, once again, never said a negative thing about liberals....if you have prove it to me."

The funny thing is just prior you quote me as saying ""What if they are all corrupt idiots". Seems pretty self evident to me that the statement expresses discontent about both republicans and democrats. Not in your little myopic world I guess. LOL!

Yes, I am from Canada and proud of it. I guess only Americans can critisize the idiocy going on south of 49. Following that logic then I guess you should shut the fuck up about politics in countries other than your own, like say Iraq for instance. Really you are something right out of "White Man's Burden". Of course, to understand the reference you would have to open a book other than the bible. :)

You state that Canada is almost completely dependent on American goods, services and products. You obviously don't have the faintest clue about international trade. Canada is your largest trading partner and vice versa. You are just as much dependant on us my fundamentalist friend. We have more resources than you ever had.

My idea that proportional representation would allow more people to have an actual say in the governing of the nation you respond with this tripe:

"You are getting painful my friend. You want to know the great thing about America? If you don't like something, as a citizen, you can affect change. The problem is, you aren't an American."

Are you on crack? That addresses my statement how? I have to retract my earlier statement: you evidently are obviously too stupid to educate yourself on a system of proportional representation.

Well, being unduly about a Republican being in office might be understandably uncool. But I don't see a major problem with being upset with a mass murderer Republican piece of dong.

I'd be quite enclined to myself call supporters of such an excuse for a human being fucking idiots and perhaps even cunts - you know, ppl like yourself for example.

I wasn't surprised to see the Washington Times as your source. They have some very Conservative writers although they do occasionally allow in a good piece from the other side.

Your dislike for anything Democrat doesn't dignify your support of a man responsible for such disgraceful and inhumane actions within another country. Don't speak to me of free elections and such or try to point out Bush ideals. They are only words and for the most part lies. This has been proven over and over again and no amount of denial will erase what will no doubt go down in history books for the next generation, if of course it's allowed during his reign. But, hopefully he won't always be there and the truth will be written. I don't need to repeat what you already know within your conscience if you have one. Mr. Bush might be able to say a prayer and open a Bible for his followers but as one who knows what the Christian walk is all about I cannot but believe his way is false.
It's too bad a person of your obvious smarts is following the pied piper.

As far as comparing this inauguaration with Clintons or any other Presidents there is no comparison. In the Clinton years we weren't running a deficit. No, we were not involved in a full scale war. The US has always been sticking it's nose in the business of other countries by hook or crook. That's not new. Bush led this country in a full scale war that is costing billions which the country doesn't have. It's too serious a time for Oscar de la Renta gowns and the like. Scaling down the inauguration may have at least put him in a better light, showed he cared. But, no he failed in this as he does in everything else that involves a heart such as not attending even one funeral of a singe US soldier killed in Iraq.

Mr. Bush thinks 51% of the people haven given him a mandate. The 49% are irrelevant. It seems you feel this way as well. So much for your democracy.

posted by: deshanews (reply)

You are correct in one thing Dianne, I do dislike everything that Democrats are about. Not Democrats like yourself, but those Democrats who are in power in Washington. Unfortunately for you, they don't hold the same values that you do.

It continues to amaze me that people disregard the fact that these so called "inhumane" actions 1. where not done by Bush and those who have done these actions are being put on trial and he has spoken out strongly against it, 2. we are in Iraq because for years and years both Republicans and Democrats said and believed that Saddam had weapons and intended to use them. Let's not let the facts get in the way though.

As far as your reasons for having a "scaled down inauguration", I don't agree with any of it. The money was private money and it was given to individual business owners trying to make a living. Is that a bad thing? As far as showing he cares about the world and things in this world, he has done plenty in that regard. Clinton and his people having a party in front of a library while there was a war going on wasn't very respectful to those who died was it?

The point is, you continue living because that is what those overseas are fighting for. Go ask any of them what they think and they will tell you the same thing.

BTW, Bush won 52% of the vote and won more votes than any candidate in the history of the United States. By winning 52% of the vote, he did something that Clinton and Jimmy Carter never did,,,,when 50% of the vote in an election. Did Clinton have a mandate? No, he never did, yet he was given full approval to do what he wanted because he is a liberal. Mr. Bush thinks that the rest of the country is irrelevant? When and where has he ever said this? Are you saying this because he does what he believes is right? For shame! Why would anyone ever follow their own moral compass?

Deviant, you are one of the most sad creatures on Tblog or cyberspace for that matter. Go back to Canada and be happy with your plumbing business. There is nothing wrong with your profession. Don't let other liberals look down upon you for doing something that is extremely important.

I work in the world of finance. I know it's difficult for someone of your intelligence to understand details of this world so I will keep it as simple as possible. People come to me when they need money for a variety of things....home loans, etc.. and I help them find the best and fastest way to get it.

You aren't a very intelligent or good person deviant. You are also spineless and cowardly. That is a given since you are Canadian. I'm sure there are some good canadians out there,,but you don't fall into that group. You fall into the group of idiots on the outside of the US who decide you know everything about our country when in fact you know very little. You fall into the group of people who want us to fail in everythin we do, even when what we are doing is good for other countries. See, you want Iraq to fail in it's attempt at freedom. You want people to die over there. You want the elections to not work. Why? Because you are so blinded by your hatred that you can't see the forest through the trees.

You and your ilk are a sick sick kind. Go back to your hole and stay there please.
